Terms of Use

Effective Date: May 1, 2026  ·  Last Updated: May 2026
Section 01

Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account, accessing, or using any portion of the Waystone platform (the “Service”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the Service.

These Terms apply to all users, including parents or guardians accessing the Service on behalf of a student, and students accessing the Service directly. If you are accessing the Service on behalf of a minor, you represent that you have the legal authority to agree to these Terms on that minor’s behalf and accept responsibility for their use of the Service.

Section 02

What Waystone Does

Waystone is an AI-powered college planning tool designed to help students and families understand how academic profiles, extracurricular activities, and course selections relate to college admissions competitiveness — beginning from a target career or field of study and working backward through degree selection, school matching, and activity prioritization.

Waystone provides:

  • AI-generated analysis of student profile strength relative to publicly available admissions benchmarks
  • School recommendations based on stated preferences, academic data, and career alignment
  • Activity scoring based on an internally developed tier framework reflecting general admissions principles
  • In-state tuition pathway research based on publicly available program information
  • Personal statement angle suggestions based on profile content
  • Career and degree alignment analysis based on publicly available data

What Waystone is: A research and planning tool that synthesizes publicly available information and applies it to a student’s stated profile. Think of it as a well-informed starting point for a college planning conversation — not the final word. It is impossible to predict an enrollment outcome, as such Waystone is not a prediction of admissions outcomes. College admissions decisions depend on many factors outside this tool’s scope.

Section 03

No Admissions Guarantee — Extended Disclosure

Waystone’s reach, match, and safety classifications are derived from publicly reported admissions statistics. These classifications reflect academic alignment with historical applicant pool data and are not predictions of outcomes for any individual applicant. A school classified as a “Good Fit” is not a school where admission is assured. A school classified as a “Reach” is not a school where admission is impossible.

Factors that influence admissions outcomes and that Waystone cannot evaluate include but are not limited to:

  • The quality, content, and framing of application essays and personal statements
  • Letters of recommendation and the specific relationships behind them
  • Demonstrated interest tracking by individual institutions
  • Year-to-year variation in applicant pool competitiveness
  • Institutional enrollment targets and yield management decisions
  • Legacy status, development considerations, and institutional priorities
  • Athlete recruitment, special talent tracks, and departmental needs
  • Applicant-specific context that falls outside the submitted profile

Bottom line: Admissions decisions belong to the institutions. Waystone helps you understand the landscape and prepare the best possible profile. What happens after you apply is outside anyone’s control — including institutions’ own admissions officers.

Section 04

AI Limitations

Waystone’s AI-generated analysis is produced by large language model systems and is subject to all known limitations of that technology. Users must understand and accept the following before relying on any output:

  • AI can produce incorrect information presented with apparent confidence. This is a known property of current large language models, not a flaw specific to Waystone. Verify all specific claims — deadlines, tuition figures, program requirements, scholarship amounts, test score thresholds — directly with the relevant institution.
  • Admissions data changes annually. College Scorecard, CDS filings, test policies, scholarship programs and tuition rates are updated each year by institutions and state legislatures. Analysis reflecting last year’s data may not accurately describe this year’s admissions environment.
  • Partnership and placement data is directionally sourced. References to institutional law enforcement partnerships, federal agency pipelines, or program-specific career outcomes are drawn from publicly available sources. Waystone does not independently verify these relationships and cannot guarantee their current status.
  • Activity scoring is directional, not predictive. The scores assigned to extracurricular activities reflect general admissions principles derived from publicly available research. No admissions office scores individual activities numerically. A score of 8.0 does not mean an activity will be evaluated the same way by every reader at every institution.
  • Profile completeness affects output quality. The more complete and accurate the profile submitted to Waystone, the more relevant the analysis. Incomplete profiles, inaccurate GPA or test score entries, or missing activity context will produce analysis that reflects the gaps in the input.

Verification responsibility: Before making any significant decision — choosing a school to apply to, deciding not to apply somewhere, skipping a test sitting, relying on scholarship figures — verify the underlying information directly with that institution’s admissions or financial aid office.

Section 05

Data Accuracy and Sources

Waystone draws from publicly available sources including the U.S. Department of Education College Scorecard, published Common Data Set filings and agency-published hiring requirements. These sources are updated on their own schedules, which Waystone cannot control.

GPA figures, SAT percentile ranges, admission rates, and net price figures presented in analysis are drawn from the most recently available data at the time the underlying methodology was compiled. Some figures are estimated from available data and noted as such. All figures should be treated as directional benchmarks.

Waystone makes no warranty that any data point is current, complete, or free from error. Institutions may change their admissions practices, test policies, or program offerings at any time.

Section 06

Platform

Waystone is a technology platform. Nothing in the Service constitutes licensed college counseling, psychological counseling, financial aid advising, or legal advice.

Waystone is intended to supplement, not replace, the judgment of students, families, school counselors, and professional advisors. For complex financial aid questions, FAFSA planning or legal residency determinations consult qualified professionals directly.

Section 07

Eligibility

Waystone is intended for use by students in grades 9 through 12, their parents or legal guardians, and educational professionals accessing the platform on behalf of students. By using the Service, you represent that:

  • You are at least 13 years of age, or that a parent or guardian has consented to your use of the Service
  • Any information you submit about a student is submitted with the knowledge and consent of that student’s parent or legal guardian if the student is under 18
  • You will use the Service only for lawful purposes related to college planning and career exploration
Section 08

Accounts and Data

Profile information entered into Waystone is stored to enable multi-session planning and to generate analysis. You are responsible for the accuracy of information you submit and for maintaining the security of your account credentials.

Waystone does not sell personal information to third parties. Profile data is used to generate analysis within the platform and to improve the quality of the Service. For full details on data collection, storage, and deletion rights, refer to the Waystone Privacy Policy.

You may delete your account and associated data at any time. Upon deletion, profile information is removed from active systems. Backup retention periods and anonymized aggregate data practices are described in the Privacy Policy.

Section 09

Payment and Refunds

Certain features of Waystone require payment. By purchasing a subscription, you agree to the pricing and terms presented at the time of purchase. All fees are stated in U.S. dollars.

Monthly subscriptions are billed on a recurring basis. Your billing cycle begins on the date you first subscribe and renews automatically on that same date each period. You will receive an email receipt after each successful charge.

Three month and annual plans are billed one time and are not automatically renewed.

Because Waystone delivers digital content and AI-generated analysis at the time of purchase, all sales are final.

You can cancel your subscription at any time from your Account Settings → My Memberships. No phone call or email required. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing cycle — you retain full access to all features through that date. We do not issue prorated refunds for unused time within a billing period.

Waystone reserves the right to change pricing at any time. Changes to pricing do not affect the terms of active subscriptions until their renewal date.

Section 10

Intellectual Property

The Waystone platform, its underlying methodology, scoring frameworks, design, and content are owned by Waystone and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may use analysis outputs for personal college planning purposes. You may not reproduce, resell, sublicense, or distribute Waystone content or methodology without express written permission.

Profile data you submit remains yours. You grant Waystone a limited license to use submitted profile data for the purpose of generating analysis and improving the Service.

Section 11

Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, WAYSTONE DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, COMPLETENESS, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

Waystone does not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that defects will be corrected. Waystone does not warrant the accuracy of any AI-generated output, any data sourced from third parties, or any admissions-related prediction or recommendation.

Section 12

Limitation of Liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, WAYSTONE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO DAMAGES RELATED TO ADMISSIONS OUTCOMES, FINANCIAL DECISIONS MADE IN RELIANCE ON THE SERVICE, OR INACCURACIES IN AI-GENERATED CONTENT.

In no event shall Waystone’s total liability to you for all claims arising from or related to the Service exceed the greater of (a) the total amount you paid to Waystone in the twelve months preceding the claim, or (b) one hundred U.S. dollars ($100).

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or limitation of liability. In such jurisdictions, Waystone’s liability is limited to the fullest extent permitted by law.

Section 13

Changes to These Terms

Waystone reserves the right to modify these Terms of Use at any time. When material changes are made, we will update the “Last Updated” date at the top of this document and, where appropriate, notify active users by email or in-platform notice.

Your continued use of the Service following the effective date of revised Terms constitutes acceptance of those changes. If you do not agree to revised Terms, you should discontinue use of the Service.
